In an unusual wildlife incident in Chattogram, a group of teenagers caught a large python that had wandered into a local neighbourhood. What began as a curious encounter quickly turned chaotic, ending with the snake being safely released back into the wild by authorities.

The incident occurred in Lohagara Upazila, when the python entered a residential area in the afternoon. The teenagers reportedly captured the snake and began playing with it, unaware of the potential danger. However, the situation escalated when a military vehicle happened to pass by. Startled, the teenagers abandoned the snake, allowing the armed forces to intervene and secure the reptile. The military promptly handed the animal over to the Forest Department, ensuring it received proper care.

Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary became the final destination for the snake. In the late afternoon, it was safely released back into its natural habitat, marking a successful conclusion to a potentially hazardous encounter.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary Beat Officer Chanchal Kumar Tarafdar confirmed that the recovered python is in good health. He added that the snake measures approximately 4.5 feet in length and likely strayed into the residential area in search of food. “Thankfully, no one was harmed during the incident, and the python is now back in a safe environment where it belongs,” he said.

This episode highlights the occasional overlap between human settlements and wildlife habitats, especially in areas bordering protected forests. Pythons, though generally non-venomous, can pose risks if handled without caution.
