Former Member of Parliament and political analyst Golam Maola Roni said, “The growing international interest in Sheikh Hasina’s trial and the complexity of Bangladesh’s current political situation indicate that the water will not stop here; it will spread much further.”
He recently made these remarks on his YouTube channel. He stated, “Sheikh Hasina is currently in India as a ‘royal guest,’ where she has been provided special security and freedom. From Delhi, she regularly addresses international media, and her communication with party leaders remains unrestricted.
The reality is that a separate secretariat has been established for Sheikh Hasina, staffed by experienced officials who understand international politics.”
He said, “Although Bangladesh has witnessed many important rulings and trials, none have been the focus of international discussion like Sheikh Hasina’s case.” Roni cited the example of the war crimes tribunal, saying, “That trial was long and open, which prompted global discussions. However, in the current context, Sheikh Hasina’s trial is gaining even greater significance on the international stage.”
He added, “In the past 15 days, the attention Sheikh Hasina has received in international media is unprecedented in recent history. Although global media operates for financial gain, such coverage cannot be bought solely with money. Jamaat or BNP failed to attract international media attention in the past. Yet within just 14 months of the Awami League losing power, Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy have emerged at the centre of international discussion.”
Citing Al Jazeera and BBC, he said, “Although these media outlets previously opposed Sheikh Hasina, they are now broadcasting her interviews. This indicates that Sheikh Hasina has been able to influence international media through her personal capability, political strategy, and the efficiency of her team; or that the international community considers Bangladesh and Sheikh Hasina mutually indispensable for some reason.”
