Former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Thiago Silva has signed with Portuguese giants FC Porto at the age of 41, marking a remarkable return to a club where his professional journey began. The announcement was officially confirmed by the club, delighting fans eager to witness the legendary Brazilian centre-back donning Porto colours once again.
Widely regarded as one of the finest defenders of his generation, Silva brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the squad. After spending two years with his home club Flamengo in Brazil, he has now embarked on a new chapter with Porto, demonstrating that age is no barrier for a footballer of his calibre.
Silva’s association with Porto dates back to the 2004–05 season, when he played for Porto B, making his early mark in European football. Over a decade later, he returns to the same city, this time as a seasoned veteran with an illustrious career spanning multiple countries and elite clubs. After his initial spell in Porto B, Silva went on to play for Dynamo Moscow before earning a spot in Flamengo’s senior team.
In 2009, Silva made the move to AC Milan, where he enjoyed considerable success, including winning the Serie A title. His stellar performances in Italy paved the way for a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2012. Over eight years at PSG, he collected seven French Ligue 1 titles and established himself as one of Europe’s most reliable defenders.
Following his departure from France in 2020, Silva joined Chelsea, where he lifted the UEFA Champions League and further enhanced his decorated career. To date, the veteran has amassed 32 major trophies, a testament to his enduring quality and consistency at the highest level.
Now back in Portugal, Silva will be expected to strengthen Porto’s defence as they aim to retain their position at the summit of the league. Currently, Porto sit five points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga, and with Silva’s leadership and tactical acumen, the club will undoubtedly harbour hopes of yet another league triumph.
