Israel has issued a stark ultimatum to residents of Gaza City: move south immediately or be treated as “terrorists and supporters of terrorism.” At the same time, Hamas is reportedly discussing United States President Donald Trump’s proposals aimed at ending the nearly two‑year‑long war.
On Wednesday (1 October), the occupying Israeli authorities delivered what they termed a final warning to the residents of Gaza City. According to The Guardian, eyewitnesses have reported intense aerial bombardments across the city.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, stated that the army is tightening its blockade around the city. Posting on the social media platform X, Katz wrote: “This is the last opportunity for Gaza City’s residents who wish to leave — move south now. Leave Hamas fighters isolated inside Gaza City.”
He further warned that anyone remaining in Gaza City would be considered “terrorists and terror supporters.”
Katz also announced that Israeli forces had seized control of the Netzarim Corridor, effectively severing access between central Gaza and the western coastline. This move has drastically limited movement between the north and south of Gaza.
From now on, residents of Gaza City attempting to move south must pass through Israeli army checkpoints. A few hours before this announcement, Israeli forces had already declared that the last remaining route from south to north had been sealed off.
| Key Strategic Updates | Details |
| Netzarim Corridor Seized | Cuts off central Gaza from the western coast. |
| Movement Severely Restricted | North and south Gaza now virtually disconnected. |
| Checkpoints Established | Residents must pass Israeli military checkpoints to move south. |
| Final Warning Issued | Remaining residents risk being labelled as terrorists. |
At the Al‑Shifa Hospital compound in Gaza City, Rabah al‑Halabi, a 60‑year‑old sheltering in a tent, described the ongoing bombardment over the phone: “Explosions are continuous all around us. I will not leave the city because the south of Gaza is equally dangerous. Bombing is happening everywhere. Displacement is terrifying and humiliating.”
He added: “We are merely waiting for death. Perhaps there will be some comfort from God or perhaps a ceasefire.”
Hamas has denounced Katz’s remarks, describing them as a forewarning of an escalation in war crimes.
