Nurul Haque Nur, former Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and current President of the Gono Adhikar Parishad, has strongly criticised those who once inspired people with hope, only to replace those dreams with disillusionment following the events of 5 August.
Speaking as the chief guest at a prize-giving ceremony titled “The July Promise: Expectations vs Reality”, held on Monday (4 August) evening at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium of Jahangirnagar University, Nur delivered a stinging rebuke of the current state of political affairs.
Key Quotes and Observations from Nur’s Speech:
He further commented that those forming new platforms in the name of revolution have begun to mirror the behaviour of the Awami League, stating:
“We are witnessing a group that now considers itself above accountability due to political identity. Using the administration as a tool, they have engaged in acts of appropriation and control. Those who once spoke of the ‘spirit’ of the revolution are now walking the same oppressive path.”
Speakers and Organisers:
The event was organised by the Student Rights Council – Jahangirnagar University branch, with Iqbal Hossain, President of the branch, presiding over the session and Nazirul Islam, the General Secretary, moderating the discussion.
