Three Police Officers Transferred Over Drug Links

Three police officers have been transferred following allegations of involvement with drug trafficking. The officers in question are Sub-Inspector (SI) Humayun Ahmed, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ahsanullah, and Nadirul Islam, all attached to Rupganj Police Station.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, Sabzel Hossain, confirmed the transfers, stating that the action was taken as a disciplinary measure.

Mehedi Islam, Assistant Police Superintendent (G Circle) of Narayanganj District Police, explained that the police force has adopted a strict zero-tolerance policy against any officer found to be associated with or suspected of collaborating with drug traffickers. “Whenever there is evidence or reasonable suspicion of police involvement with drug networks, immediate and strict measures are implemented,” he said.

Major Drug Seizure in Rupganj

The transfers come amid a significant anti-narcotics operation in Rupganj, where police recovered a substantial quantity of drugs in a coordinated early-morning raid. The operation, conducted in the Bhulta Union area, specifically in Thakur Bari Tek, resulted in the seizure of approximately 60 kilograms of cannabis and 450 bottles of the psychotropic drug Escaf.

The raid, informed by local intelligence, also targeted the nearby Lavrapara area. In a simultaneous separate operation, law enforcement recovered a private car transporting drugs, along with a magazine and a pistol. During these operations, Abu Hanif, a known drug trafficker, was arrested along with one of his associates.

Summary of Seizures

Item Seized Quantity Location
Cannabis (Ganja) 60 kg Thakur Bari Tek & Lavrapara
Escaf (bottles) 450 Thakur Bari Tek & Lavrapara
Firearm Magazine 1 During separate operation
Pistol 1 During separate operation
Private Car (used for drug transport) 1 Separate operation

Mehedi Islam emphasised that these operations are part of a wider crackdown on narcotics in the Narayanganj district, highlighting the police’s commitment to dismantling drug networks while maintaining internal accountability within the force.

The disciplinary transfers and the successful raids signal the Narayanganj police’s dual focus: preventing corruption within its ranks and curbing the distribution of illicit drugs in the region.
