Chattogram, 27 January: A devastating road accident in Mirsharai Upazila has claimed the lives of three sisters and another pedestrian, while leaving five others critically injured. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 am on Wednesday near Jahedia Dakhil Madrasa, adjacent to Borotakia Bazaar.
Among the deceased is Khadija Mashmum, a 15-year-old student preparing for her Dakhil examinations, along with an unidentified young man. Witnesses report that the three sisters—Khadija, Toafiya Tabassum (13), and Umme Habiba (11)—were walking hand-in-hand towards the madrasa when a speeding truck collided with them on the Chattogram-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
The collision also involved a neighbouring CNG-run auto-rickshaw, which was pushed into a nearby pond. The truck subsequently lost control, striking the pedestrians and the sisters again before ultimately plunging into the same water body.
Eyewitnesses noted that the sisters were only about 500 metres from the madrasa entrance when the tragedy occurred. Alongside the sisters, 40-year-old pedestrian Abul Khayer and two other unidentified individuals sustained severe injuries. All the injured have been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment.

The details of the deceased and injured are as follows:

The families of the victims are in deep mourning. The three sisters were daughters of Nasir Uddin from Polmogora village, Khaiyachara Union. Following the accident, a large number of villagers visited the family home. A curtain has been drawn in the courtyard to preserve the dignity of the deceased, while relatives and neighbours grieve over the loss.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Nadim Haider Chowdhury of the Mirsharai Circle confirmed that officers arrived promptly after witnessing the accident and ensured the injured were rushed to hospital. He verified that at least two deaths had been confirmed, with medical treatment ongoing for the others.
The tragedy has renewed concerns among locals about road safety. The Chattogram-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway runs directly alongside the madrasa entrance, where high-speed traffic is a constant hazard. Residents have urged authorities to consider additional safety measures to prevent such catastrophic incidents in the future.
