The gruesome discovery of a teenage student’s body in a local pond has left the community of Rangunia in shock. On Tuesday morning, authorities retrieved the lifeless, throat-slitted body of a tenth-grade student from Hazari Pond, located in the Hazarihat area of Parua Union. The incident has sent ripples of grief and disbelief through the victim’s family and neighbours.
The victim, identified as Mohammad Shahed Islam, was a 16-year-old student of Parua Sahabdinagar High School. According to family members, Shahed went missing on Monday evening at approximately 6:00 pm after leaving his home. Despite an extensive search by relatives and friends, he could not be located, prompting the family to file a General Diary (GD) at Rangunia Police Station.
The following morning, local residents reported seeing a body floating in the pond. Police arrived promptly, retrieved the body, and confirmed the identity with the family. Relatives at the scene were visibly devastated by the sight.

Rangunia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Arman Hossain told reporters: “Preliminary investigations indicate that this is a planned homicide. The body bears clear signs of throat injury. We are working to identify and apprehend those responsible and will take legal action swiftly.” He added that the investigation is being expedited with the cooperation of both the victim’s family and local residents.
Community members have described the murder as extremely brutal and heart-wrenching. While the motive behind this heinous act remains unclear, police officials have assured that all possible angles, including personal and criminal motives, are being thoroughly examined.
Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding Shahed’s death to come forward, stressing the importance of community assistance in resolving the case swiftly. Meanwhile, the town remains in mourning, struggling to come to terms with the shocking violence that claimed the life of a young student.
