Thunderstorm Warnings Across Bangladesh Over Coming Days

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued alerts for scattered rain and thunderstorms throughout the country in the coming days, as an extended low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal influences regional weather patterns. While a seasonal low-pressure area remains in the southern Bay, its western extension currently affects West Bengal and neighbouring regions, contributing to unstable conditions across Bangladesh.

The Meteorological Department has indicated that this pattern may result in rainfall or thunderstorms in the capital, Dhaka, and across all eight divisions. A slight drop in daytime temperatures is also expected in some areas, while night temperatures will remain largely stable.

Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, a senior meteorologist, stated that isolated showers or thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected across the eight divisions. While daytime temperatures may fluctuate slightly, night-time readings will remain mostly stable, with minor increases in some regions on Monday and Tuesday.

The persistent low-pressure system is likely to create conditions conducive to lightning, temporary strong gusts, and intermittent heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, particularly in flood-prone or low-lying areas, and to follow official weather updates regularly.

Authorities have also urged the public to exercise caution during thunderstorms, avoid unnecessary travel, and take protective measures to minimise risks associated with lightning strikes and sudden wind gusts.

This period of unsettled weather highlights the need for preparedness, as rapid changes in atmospheric pressure and wind conditions may affect daily life, transport, and outdoor activities. Citizens are advised to plan carefully and stay alert as Bangladesh experiences dynamic and variable weather across the country.
