After a disappointing start in the opening T20 match, Bangladesh are preparing to face the West Indies in the second game of the series — a crucial encounter that could determine their fate in the contest. To reignite their campaign, the Tigers are expected to make several changes in their playing eleven.
Shamim Patwary is likely to be replaced by Zakir Ali, while all-rounder Sheikh Mehedi and pace bowler Shoriful Islam are also in contention to return to the side.
On the eve of the match, the Bangladesh team completed a light gym session at their hotel, keeping things relaxed yet focused. In contrast, the West Indies players hit the training ground barely 12 hours after their previous game. Despite their long-standing success in the T20 format, the Caribbean side have been struggling to regain their former dominance in recent times. Even after winning the first match, complete confidence is yet to settle in their camp.
For Bangladesh, the loss in the first match came as a significant setback. On a batting-friendly wicket, the failures of Saif and Liton, coupled with an underwhelming top and middle order, raised concerns about the batting unit’s stability. As a result, their sole objective heading into the second match is clear — to fight back and level the series.
Team management is considering resting Mustafizur Rahman, who has played three ODIs and the first T20 consecutively. Taskin Ahmed might also be given a break. The Tigers may opt for a combination of three spinners and two pacers this time. There’s also a strong possibility that Zakir Ali will return in place of Shamim. Sources indicate that coach Salahuddin had an extended batting session with Zakir on the night of the first match, advising him on correcting technical flaws in his game.
Bangladesh had built up confidence in the T20 format after winning four consecutive series. However, Liton’s side now face the risk of losing a home series — something they will be desperate to avoid. The Tigers will need to deliver their best performance today to stay alive in the contest.
Bangladesh’s Probable XI for the Second T20:
Liton Das (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Saif Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Zakir Ali, Rishad Hossain, Sheikh Mehedi, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nasum Ahmed.
Before the showdown, Bangladesh had a cover session to fine-tune their strategies, while the Caribbean players also trained intensely. Both teams now appear fully prepared for what promises to be a fierce battle for resurgence.
