Tigers Face Sri Lanka Today in Second Asia Cup Match

Bangladesh began their Asia Cup campaign with a victory and are now preparing for a crucial clash against Sri Lanka today (Saturday, 13 September) in pursuit of securing a place in the Super Four.

At the pre-match press conference, fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib stated that he is not giving Sri Lanka any special consideration, as Bangladesh’s ultimate aim is nothing short of winning the championship title.

In recent years, matches between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have become particularly appealing to fans. Since the Nidahas Trophy, every white-ball encounter between the two nations has generated intense excitement.

This Asia Cup once again promises a fiery showdown between the Tigers and the Lions.

  • Bangladesh, under the leadership of Liton Das, won the T20I series in Sri Lanka in July, adding to the team’s growing confidence.

Reflecting on past performances, Tanzim said: “We will go into the match with extra confidence against Sri Lanka. We beat them in the last series and also at the World Cup. That inspires us further. We know their players, and we also know their weaknesses.”

While acknowledging the challenges of the tournament, he reaffirmed the team’s ambition: “We are here to play the tournament, and our target is big. No matter who we play against, winning is the main focus.”

Responding to recent sarcastic comments about the Asia Cup made by Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Tanzim dismissed them: “It doesn’t matter what anyone says. We are here to represent Bangladesh with a clear objective. Our main job is to give our best on the field.
