In preparation for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the concurrent referendum, the capital city of Dhaka has been placed under the highest level of security today, Thursday. Armed patrols from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the police, and the army have been deployed across all polling stations to ensure a safe and orderly voting process.
Voting commenced at 7:30 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until 4:30 p.m. Several key polling stations in the city, including Dhaka Residential Model College, Mohammadpur Government Physical Education College, and the Capital High School on Manik Mia Avenue, have witnessed a strong presence of law enforcement personnel.
The officer-in-charge of Dhaka Residential Model College reported that a total of 13,884 registered voters, comprising both men and women, are eligible to cast their ballots at this centre.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Police Commissioner (Media) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), stated that 26,515 law enforcement personnel have been deployed across the capital to maintain security in and around polling stations.
According to the latest figures from the Election Commission, a total of 919,350 law enforcement members are on duty nationwide, including 103,000 military personnel. In addition, combined forces from the Navy, Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coast Guard, police, RAB, and Ansar are actively participating in maintaining order.
To oversee law and order on the voting day and to address any offences immediately, 657 judicial magistrates and 1,047 executive magistrates have been assigned across the polling stations.
The table below provides a snapshot of some of Dhaka’s prominent polling stations, along with registered voter numbers and security deployment:
