The Vatican’s top diplomat has strongly condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza, describing the situation as a “carnage” that demands urgent international attention.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, decried the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
“The violence in Gaza must stop. The continued bombardments and attacks are creating a humanitarian disaster that is simply unacceptable,” the cardinal said.
The Vatican has consistently played a mediating role in Middle East conflicts, using its diplomatic channels to encourage dialogue between Israel, Palestinian authorities, and international organisations.
The condemnation comes amid intensifying international concern over the escalating hostilities in Gaza, where ongoing strikes have resulted in significant civilian casualties.
| Issue | Details |
| Civilians affected | Women, children, elderly in Gaza |
| Vatican stance | Immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, diplomatic resolution |
| International calls | UN, NGOs urging halt to hostilities |
| Recent developments | Continued Israeli airstrikes and ongoing Hamas resistance |
Cardinal Parolin emphasised that the Vatican’s mission is not only spiritual but humanitarian, urging all actors to prioritise human life and the protection of civilians above all else.
“We must act to prevent further carnage and to ensure that the basic dignity of every human being is respected,” he concluded.
The Vatican continues to monitor the situation closely and has reiterated its readiness to support efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution.
