Tonight, Alliance Française Dhaka will host the fifth edition of its highly anticipated ‘Tradition of Melody’, an intimate evening dedicated to showcasing the very best of subcontinental classical music. The event is a part of the Subcontinental Classical Music Workshop, led by the talented Manjurul Islam Khan, and this month’s concert promises to be a spectacular demonstration of both new talent and experienced artists coming together on stage.
Starting at 6:30 PM, the evening will feature the melodious voices of Tabina Anbir and Sohag Masud, two promising students from the Subcontinental Classical Music Workshop. Both Anbir and Masud have undergone rigorous training under the guidance of Khan, and tonight, they will showcase their skills, performing classical compositions that highlight the intricate techniques of this ancient musical tradition.
Joining them on stage are special guest performers, Yusuf Ahmed Khan and Yasmin Labony, two esteemed figures in the classical music community. Their performances are expected to provide an expert balance between tradition and innovation, offering a variety of musical pieces that span the breadth of subcontinental classical music.
Another major highlight of the evening will be the presence of Chandan Sinha, a respected musicologist and artist, who will attend as a special guest. His contributions to the field of classical music have earned him recognition both in Bangladesh and internationally, making his presence at the event a great honour.
In an interview, Yasmin Labony expressed her enthusiasm about the event: “I’ve been looking forward to this performance for over a month. It’s always a pleasure to perform at Alliance Française Dhaka, as they offer such a professional and well-organised platform for classical music. I believe this evening will be a true celebration of the richness and beauty of subcontinental music.”
