Tragedy in Netrokona: Farmer Found Murdered in His Home

Netrokona, Bangladesh – A grim discovery has shaken the village of Nariapara in the Kalijara Gabragati Union, where the body of 58-year-old farmer Helal Uddin was found brutally murdered in his own bedroom. The victim’s hands and feet were bound, and he had been slashed to death, leaving the community reeling in shock.

The local police retrieved the body on Sunday, 21 December, at approximately midday. Authorities have taken Helal’s wife, Bedena Akter, 40, into custody for questioning regarding the incident.

Helal Uddin, son of the late Ashrab Ali, was a lifelong resident of Nariapara village and earned his living through farming. According to neighbours and family members, Helal married Bedena Akter nearly 20 years ago in Semia Dudhkura village, Barhatta. The couple had two children: an 18-year-old son, Sharif Uddin, currently studying at a madrasa in his grandfather’s home, and a three-year-old daughter. On the night of Saturday, Helal had eaten dinner and gone to bed, while Bedena and their young daughter slept on another bed in the same tin-roofed house.

Bedena Akter recounted the chilling moment of discovery, stating that around 4:15 a.m., she went to use the toilet and upon returning found her husband’s lifeless, bloodied body on the floor. “I saw the pillow had fallen from the other bed,” she said. “When I turned on the torch, I realised he had been brutally murdered. I screamed and fainted.”

Helal’s younger brothers expressed disbelief and grief. Jalal Uddin said, “We do not know who would commit such a heinous act or why. We had nine brothers in total. Just last Friday, our elder brother, Taj Uddin, passed away naturally. Now another brother, Helal, has been murdered. He was simple, kind, and had no known enemies. We demand swift justice from law enforcement.”

Another brother, Nazim Uddin, added, “After our eldest brother passed, we went to bed late. Helal slept in his own room. We awoke to this horror. He was a peaceful farmer with no disputes. We seek answers and justice for his senseless murder.”

Officer-in-Charge of Netrokona Model Police Station, Md. Al Mamun Sarkar, confirmed that the police are investigating the motive behind the killing. “Bedena Akter is in police custody for questioning. The body has been sent to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy,” he said.

Netrokona Superintendent of Police, Md. Tarikul Islam, stated that CID teams from Mymensingh, along with PBI officers, are conducting the investigation. “We are working diligently and hope to uncover the truth soon,” he added.

The shocking murder has left the tight-knit community of Nariapara in grief and fear, highlighting the urgent need for security and swift action from law enforcement.
