A two-year-old child has tragically lost her life following a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Pekua Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. At least six others, including the child’s mother, sustained injuries in the accident.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning (19 February) on the Chakaria-Mughnama Road, near the Anar Ali Matbar Para area. The deceased child, Tahasin (2), was the daughter of Abdul Haque from Palakata Village in Eidgaon Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. Her mother, Anarkali, was seriously injured in the crash.
According to family members, the child and her mother were travelling from their home in Palakata to Kutubdia, where they were visiting relatives. On the way, their CNG auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a passenger bus operated by Balaka Service, which was coming from the opposite direction.
The impact also injured five other passengers in the auto-rickshaw, including three children. Several of the injured were reported to be in a critical condition and required urgent medical attention. Local residents promptly rushed the victims to the Pekua Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced Tahasin dead upon arrival. The remaining injured are receiving medical treatment, and their conditions are being closely monitored.
The Officer-in-Charge of Pekua Police Station, Khairul Alam, confirmed that police quickly arrived at the scene following the accident, managed the situation, and secured the area. After completing legal procedures, Tahasin’s body was handed over to her grieving family.
