A horrific road accident in southern Bangladesh has claimed the lives of three members of a family returning from a visit to relatives in Chuadanga. The victims – a father, his son, and his young granddaughter – were killed when their private car collided with a large tree late on Tuesday night, while three other family members sustained serious injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Majid Sardar, 70, his son Mahmud Hasan Zakaria Jony, 43, and Jony’s four-year-old daughter, Seherish. The injured were immediately transferred to Jashore General Hospital and subsequently referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced medical treatment.
According to police reports, the family was travelling from Chuadanga to their home in Fatehabad village, Monirampur Upazila, Jashore. The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on the Jashore-Magura highway, near Gaidghat in Bagarpara, Jashore. Eyewitnesses were not present at the scene, and authorities are investigating the exact cause. Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Barbazar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Kabir told Jugantor: “We received the accident alert at 3:15 a.m. On arrival, the vehicle was found crashed against a large roadside tree. Two passengers were deceased on site, and one more died after being taken to hospital. We are examining all possibilities, including driver fatigue or loss of control.”

Local residents expressed shock over the tragedy, highlighting that this section of the highway is particularly dangerous at night due to poor lighting and roadside obstacles. Many believe excessive speed and driver fatigue were contributing factors.
Police have confirmed that legal proceedings will follow and that the driver is under investigation. Authorities continue to examine whether road conditions, vehicle safety, or driver error were primarily responsible.
The accident has cast a pall over Fatehabad village, with neighbours and relatives mourning the sudden loss of three generations of the same family. Community members have also gathered to support the seriously injured and are praying for their recovery.
