The Rajshahi University community has been plunged into mourning following the discovery of a female student’s body at a private hostel in the Binodpur area of the city. On Wednesday afternoon, local authorities and emergency services were called to the scene after concerns were raised regarding the welfare of a resident. Upon arrival, police were forced to break down the door of the student’s room, where they discovered her remains.
The deceased has been identified as Lamisa Nawrin, also known as Pushpita. She was a first-year student in the Department of Islamic History and Culture for the 2024–25 academic session. Originally hailing from the Jhenaidah district, Lamisa had moved to Rajshahi to pursue her higher education at one of the nation’s most prestigious institutions. Her sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the university, leaving both faculty and fellow students in a state of profound grief.
According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motihar Police Station, Abul Kalam Azad, the preliminary investigation suggests that the student took her own life. It was reported that she was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf. Police promptly transported her to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), but the attending physicians declared her dead on arrival.
