In a heart-wrenching incident on Friday, 20 March, a 15-year-old schoolboy lost his life after being struck by lightning while returning home from the fields in Jamalpur. The tragedy occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. in the Kendua Kalibari area of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.
The deceased has been identified as Hridoy Hasan, son of Md. Madhu Mia, a resident of the local community. Hridoy was a seventh-grade student at Kendua Kalibari Mukul Niketon School, known among his peers for his diligence and gentle nature.
According to local accounts, Hridoy had spent the morning cutting grass in the fields to feed his family’s cattle. As he was making his way home, dark clouds suddenly gathered overhead, and a sudden thunderstorm erupted. While hurrying back to the safety of his home, Hridoy was struck by lightning and fell unconscious on the ground.
Villagers rushed to his aid, carrying him home in a desperate attempt to save him. Tragically, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at his residence. The devastating loss has left the community in shock and mourning.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that the schoolboy’s death was the result of a lightning strike during the morning rainfall. Local residents have called for increased awareness of weather-related risks, particularly for children and individuals working in open fields during thunderstorms.
