A sombre atmosphere has descended upon Chandpur Sadar Upazila following the untimely death of a promising young student, who was fatally struck by a passenger bus on Wednesday, 7 January 2026. The victim, identified as Rahela Akter Shanta, aged 18, was a second-year intermediate student in the Science department at Jilani Chishti College.
The tragic accident occurred during the busy midday hours in the Ghosherhat area of Chandpur Sadar. According to eyewitness accounts and local residents, Rahela was attempting to cross the road when she was hit by a speeding bus operated by Aidi Paribahan. Following the incident, local inhabitants gathered at the site, expressing their grief and rising frustrations regarding road safety in the Ghosherhat area.
