Train Employee Injured in Stone-Throwing Incident

A railway employee was seriously injured when unidentified assailants hurled stones at a passenger train travelling from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka on Monday evening, forcing the train to halt and divert the victim to hospital.

The injured, 52-year-old Shaber Ahmed, a bedding porter responsible for distributing sheets, pillows, and blankets in the train’s AC and other coaches, is currently receiving treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Ahmed sustained a deep head wound that required ten stitches.

Incident Details

The attack occurred at approximately 8:15 pm on 2 March near Dulahazara in Chakaria Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. According to railway officials, the train had departed Cox’s Bazar Railway Station shortly before the incident, en route to Dhaka.

Before reaching Dulahazara Railway Station, between Eidgaon and Chakaria Upazilas, an unknown individual threw a stone at the moving train, striking Ahmed on the head. Fellow staff immediately alerted the authorities, and the train was stopped to provide urgent medical assistance. Ahmed was initially taken to Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital. However, due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital later that night.

Railway personnel expressed concern over such violent attacks on staff, emphasising the need for heightened security measures along vulnerable stretches of track.
