Bank officials and employees in the country will not be allowed to travel abroad until the upcoming national election is held. The directive was issued by Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday (26 November) through a circular.
According to the circular, the restriction applies to all—from managing directors or chief executive officers to other officers and employees. However, travel may be permitted in unavoidable circumstances. The directive has been issued under the authority granted by Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991, and takes immediate effect.
Unavoidable circumstances include medical treatment, pilgrimage, urgent official requirements and similar essential reasons.
Previously, Bangladesh Bank had issued various instructions regarding foreign travel by bankers— sometimes imposing restrictions and sometimes relaxing them.
