US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for stopping the recent clash between India and Pakistan. Trump stated that after threatening to impose 350 percent tariffs on both countries, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him and said, “We will not go to war.”
Trump added that he has been effective in dispute resolution for years and actively helped de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan in May. While Pakistan acknowledged Trump’s role, India has consistently denied any third-party intervention.
On Wednesday (19 November), Trump said, “India and Pakistan were about to use nuclear weapons. I told them it’s fine, but I will impose 350 percent tariffs on both countries. You will have no trade with the United States.”
Speaking at the US-Saudi Investment Forum in the presence of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump said he pressured both countries not to go to war. He also mentioned that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called to thank him, and he received a call from Modi as well. During the conversation, Modi assured, “We will not go to war.” Trump thanked Modi for the response and suggested making a deal.
