Trump Urges Boycott of Springsteen Tour

Donald Trump has called on his supporters to boycott Bruce Springsteen’s ongoing “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour”, intensifying a growing public dispute after the rock musician delivered a series of outspoken political criticisms of his administration during recent live performances.

Posting on his social media platform, Trump denounced Springsteen’s music and appearance, while encouraging his political base to avoid attending the concerts, which he described as excessively priced. In the same remarks, he defended his administration’s record and drew sharp contrasts between his policies and those of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

The latest escalation follows Springsteen’s opening concert in Minneapolis, where he used the stage to deliver strongly worded political commentary. Addressing the audience between songs, the singer accused the Trump administration of corruption and suggested that its leadership had damaged the United States’ international standing. He also argued that global perceptions of America had deteriorated under current political conditions.

Springsteen had previously indicated in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune that the tour would carry a political and topical dimension, reflecting what he views as pressing national concerns. During the Minneapolis performance, he went further, reportedly describing Trump as someone who “can’t handle the truth”, reinforcing the confrontational tone of his remarks.

In response, the American Federation of Musicians issued a public statement condemning personal attacks directed at the artist. The union praised Springsteen as a longstanding voice for working people and defended his right to freedom of expression. It stressed that musicians and public figures should be able to express political opinions without facing personal denigration or calls for boycotts.

Springsteen himself has not directly responded to Trump’s boycott appeal. However, in earlier interviews, including remarks to Time magazine, he stated that his willingness to speak out stems from his belief that sections of the public have been misinformed politically. He also indicated that potential backlash or loss of audience support does not deter him, noting that public reaction is an inherent part of performing in the public eye.
