Trump’s Strong Statement Against Canada

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the suspension of “all kinds of trade talks” with Canada. He shared this decision in a post on the social media platform Truth Social on Thursday night (October 23 local time).

Trump alleged that a recent television advertisement broadcast in Canada demonstrated “horrible behavior” against U.S. tariff policies and attempted to influence the decisions of American courts.

He wrote, “Canada used a fake advertisement by the Ronald Reagan Foundation showing President Reagan making anti-tariff statements. This is completely false.”

The Reagan Foundation stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the advertisement produced by the Ontario government distorted President Reagan’s original 1987 speech and used it without permission. The Foundation is considering legal action regarding the matter. Expressing his anger over the incident, Trump said, “Due to their horrible behavior, all trade talks with Canada end here.”

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney recently said that due to U.S. tariff policies, he is planning to double Canada’s exports to countries outside the United States.

Trump’s tariff policies have particularly impacted Canada’s automobile industry. Ontario-based automotive giant Stellantis announced this month that it is moving a production line from Ontario to Illinois in the United States.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, speaking in favor of the advertisement, said, “We will use every possible means to express our position against U.S. tariff policies. Prosperity will come if we work together.”

The office of the Canadian Prime Minister has not yet issued an official response on the matter. This incident is expected to further escalate the ongoing trade tensions between the two neighboring countries.
