The Coast Guard has arrested two associates of the notorious Karim Sharif robbery gang in the Sundarbans. A single-barrel gun, three rounds of live ammunition, and four blank rounds were recovered from them. The detainees are Faruk Bepari (30) and Imdadul Bepari (27) of Mongla. The matter was confirmed on Saturday morning by Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard.
He stated that acting on secret information that members of the Karim Sharif gang were staying near the Bhaizora Canal beside the Pashur River in Mongla, a Coast Guard team conducted an operation there at 6am on Saturday, during which the two individuals were detained.
During primary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they had long been assisting the gang in robbery activities and supplying weapons, ammunition, and provisions. The Coast Guard reported that preparations are underway to hand over the detainees and the recovered weapons and ammunition through legal procedures.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq added that operations would continue to keep the Sundarbans free from bandit activities.
