After eight years, BNP’s Baliadangi Upazila held its council on 12 July at the Samiruddin Smriti College field. The elections included contests for president, general secretary, and organisational secretary.

During the vote counting for the president’s post, tensions escalated, prompting army intervention to stabilise the situation. Later, Mirza Faisal Amin, the General Secretary of Thakurgaon District BNP, arrived at the centre and formally announced the results.
While returning home after the announcement, unidentified individuals attacked him and vandalised his vehicle.
Aftermath
On 13 July, Paigam Ali, Joint General Secretary of Thakurgaon District BNP, held a press conference, declaring the suspension of the council results. That same day, the district BNP convened a meeting and recommended the expulsion of the two involved leaders to the party’s central committee.
This incident highlights the growing internal strife within BNP’s local units, particularly as the party gears up for national and regional leadership restructuring.
