Two Children Among Six Killed in Russian Strikes on Ukraine

A series of Russian drone and missile attacks across Ukraine from late Saturday into early Sunday has left six people dead, including two children, and disrupted power for tens of thousands, Ukrainian officials reported.

The overnight bombardment targeted primarily the southern and central regions of the country, injuring at least a dozen others, according to local authorities.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office said on Telegram that “Russian forces attacked the Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions. Six people died, including two children.”

Ukraine’s Human Rights Commissioner, Dmytro Lubinets, confirmed that the victims included two boys aged 11 and 14.

In the southern Zaporizhzhia region, nearly 58,000 households were left without power after a separate Russian strike, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said.

Moscow has not immediately commented on the latest attacks. It continues to deny deliberately targeting civilians, claiming instead that its strikes are aimed at infrastructure supporting Ukraine’s defence industry. Kyiv, however, insists that such attacks are intended to break civilian morale and cripple the country’s energy network.

The assault comes as Russia presses ahead with its nearly four-year-long invasion, ignoring renewed US calls for a ceasefire. Kyiv has accused Moscow of using wintertime strikes on the energy grid as proof that it seeks destruction rather than peace.

Meanwhile, in a retaliatory move, a Ukrainian drone strike early Sunday targeted Russia’s Black Sea port of Tuapse, setting an oil tanker ablaze and damaging port infrastructure, regional officials confirmed.
