Two Die as Bus and Tractor Clash in Dinajpur

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two individuals in Ghoghat, Dinajpur, on Saturday, 27 December, at approximately 12:30 pm. The incident occurred in the Birahimpur Gucchagram area, leaving local residents in shock and prompting police investigations.

According to witnesses, a bus operated by Molla Transport, travelling from Dinajpur to Dhaka, collided head-on with a tractor. The impact was so severe that the tractor was completely mangled, and its driver was killed instantly at the scene. Another individual sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex by local residents, but doctors later confirmed that the person had succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased tractor driver has been identified as Juhin, a 23-year-old resident of South Debipur. The identity of the second victim remains unconfirmed. Authorities are currently attempting to determine whether the individual was a passenger or an assistant to the bus driver.

Superintendent of Ghoghat Police, Shahidul Islam, stated that the bus driver abandoned the vehicle immediately following the collision. Both the bus and the tractor have since been seized by the authorities, who are preparing to take appropriate legal action. He further emphasised that efforts are ongoing to ascertain the second victim’s identity and trace the fleeing bus driver.

Locals have described the scene as chaotic, noting that the accident created a significant traffic disruption in the area. Many residents have called for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and more cautious driving practices to prevent similar incidents in the future.
