Two young men were killed in a motorcycle accident in Sherpur, Bogura. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm yesterday, Sunday, in the Phulbari Bazar area of Garidaha Union. Another person was injured.
The deceased were identified as Mehedi Hasan (20) from Rameshwarpur in Garidaha Union and Sahabul Hasan (20) from Goshaipara in Sherpur municipality. The injured person was Utsab Chakraborty (20) from the same area.
According to two eyewitnesses, the three friends were heading towards Rameshwarpur on a motorcycle. The rider lost control, and the motorcycle crashed into the shutter of a roadside shop. All three sustained serious injuries. Locals rescued them and took them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.
Sherpur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Amirul Islam told the media that Mehedi Hasan and Sahabul Hasan were critically injured and died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The injured Utsab Chakraborty received primary treatment locally and returned home. All three were friends, and Sahabul was riding the motorcycle.
Injured Utsab Chakraborty said the accident occurred due to overspeeding while they were taking Mehedi home last night. All three had passed their HSC examination this year.
Lal Mia, Investigation Officer of the Chilimpur Police Outpost under Bogura Sadar Police Station, told the media that both Sahabul and Mehedi died between 10 pm and 10:15 pm while being treated at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Sherpur Police Station Investigation Officer Zainul Abedin said the bodies would be handed over to the families after legal procedures.
