Two Killed, Dozens Injured in Valuka Road Tragedy

VALUKA, Mymensingh — A devastating road accident occurred on Thursday, 20 March, in Valuka Upazila, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring at least thirty others. The collision involved a high-speed intercity bus, a battery-powered auto-rickshaw, and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the busy Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway.

The incident took place around 12:00 pm in the Club Bazar area of Bhoradoba Union, in front of Tafrid Cotton Mill, while the bus was travelling towards Mymensingh. Local sources reported that the bus, moving at a considerable speed, lost control unexpectedly. It collided with both auto-rickshaws travelling in the same lane before crashing into a nearby electricity pole and overturning onto the roadside.

The victims included Moshi Akter, 50, wife of Jalal Mia from Kashiganj in Trishal Upazila. The identity of the second deceased, an estimated 60-year-old man, has not yet been confirmed. Both vehicles were completely crushed, and significant damage occurred to the bus’s front section as well.

Local rescue teams and Valuka Fire Service personnel quickly responded, transporting the injured to Valuka Upazila Health Complex. Five critically injured individuals were later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The Highway Police seized the bus involved in the accident for further investigation.

Senior Station Officer of Valuka Fire Service, Atikur Rahman, confirmed that both the deceased had been recovered and that injured individuals were being treated at the local health facility. Bhoradoba Highway Police Station OC, Istiak Ahmed, added that the bus had been impounded and that authorities were investigating the circumstances of the crash.
