Two people were killed and two others seriously injured in a tragic road accident on the Netrakona–Mymensingh highway. The accident occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday (October 30) near the Narandia Union Health Complex area when a CNG-run autorickshaw collided head-on with a stationary sand-laden truck.
The injured were immediately taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Jalil (45), a resident of China Mor area under Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station, and Shahid Mia (42), of Asdaati village in Netrakona Sadar upazila.
Among the injured is Shahid Mia’s wife, Rezia Akter (40).
According to police and local sources, the sand-laden truck had broken down and was parked on one side of the highway. At around 10:30 p.m., a CNG-run autorickshaw coming from Mymensingh crashed into the back of the stationary truck in the dark. The impact was so severe that the autorickshaw was completely crushed, killing two passengers on the spot.
Shyamganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahid Mia confirmed the incident, saying that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered and taken to the police station. After the necessary autopsy procedures, the bodies will be handed over to their families.
