Two killed, two more shot in clash between two groups over control of hayfield

Two people were killed and two others injured in a violent clash between the Kakon gang and the Mondol gang over control of a straw field in the char area of the Padma River under Moricha Union of Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia.

The incident took place around 11 a.m. on Monday (October 27) at the vast char land of the 14,000 Mouza area in Daulatpur upazila.

According to police and local sources, the conflict erupted between the Kakon gang of Daulatpur and the Mondol gang from Bagha in Rajshahi over possession of the newly emerged straw fields on the Padma char. The two sides exchanged gunfire for a long time during the clash.

During the shooting, Mondol gang leader Montaj Mondol and three others were shot. Aman Mondol (36), son of Minhaj Mondol, died on the spot. Later, Nazmul Mondol (26), son of Shukur Ali Mondol, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The deceased and injured were residents of Nich Khanpur village in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi. The injured were identified as Montaj Mondol (32), son of Chan Mondol, and Rakib Mondol (18), son of Arshad Mondol. After initial treatment, both were transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better care.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, Solaiman Sheikh, said that as the incident occurred along the border of Daulatpur and Bagha police stations, the investigation is being led by Bagha police.

Inspector (Investigation) of Bagha Police Station, Suprabhat Mondol, said that two people were killed and two others injured in a clash between the Kakon and Mondol gangs over a straw field dispute in Daulatpur. The bodies have been sent to the morgue at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

He added that the investigation is ongoing and police operations are underway to arrest those involved.
