Two Military Officers Presented at Tribunal Under Tight Security

Lieutenant Colonel Redwanul Islam and another military officer have been presented at the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with the July–August killings of 28 people in Rampara, Dhaka, on charges of crimes against humanity. On Thursday, 4 December, at approximately 10:15am, they were brought from Dhaka Cantonment’s special prison to the tribunal under strict security in a prison van.

The hearing will be conducted by a three-member panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, where the prosecution will present formal charges against four individuals. Security around the tribunal remains high, with deployment from the High Court police, RAB, BGB, and army personnel.

Alongside Redwanul, former BGB officer Major Md. Rafat Bin Alam was present. Two other accused remain at large—former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Khilgaon, Md. Rashedul Islam, and former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station, Md. Moshiur Rahman. On 24 November, the tribunal appointed state defence for the absconding accused, and Supreme Court lawyer Masud Salahuddin represented the military officers, requesting virtual hearings in lieu of personal appearances.

Earlier, on 22 October, Redwan and Rafat were brought to the tribunal and sent to prison following the hearing. Notices were issued for the presentation of absconding accused. During the July–August student and public movement, a wave of killings occurred nationwide, with 28 people killed in Rampara and many others injured. Following investigation reports, separate formal charges have been filed against the four accused.
