Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar – 14 January 2026: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has apprehended two drug traffickers in Teknaf, recovering a massive consignment of methamphetamine (locally known as yaba) valued at nearly 4 crore taka.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Hafez, 20, son of the late Syed Alam, and Md. Nur, 22, son of Syed Alam. Both hail from Jadimura Rohingya Camp No. 27 in Teknaf.
According to Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard, the operation was launched on the night of Tuesday, 13 January 2026, following credible intelligence reports regarding suspicious activity near the Naf River, adjacent to Naitangpara under Teknaf police jurisdiction.
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel intercepted a wooden boat displaying suspicious movement and conducted a thorough search. Inside, they discovered 75,000 yaba pills, with an estimated market value of approximately BDT 37.5 million. Both traffickers were immediately taken into custody.
The confiscated items—including the drugs and the boat used in the smuggling attempt—have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal proceedings. Lieutenant Commander Haq emphasised that such operations are part of a broader Coast Guard initiative to curb the illegal drug trade in the region, particularly along the border areas near Myanmar.
“The successful interception underscores our commitment to disrupting cross-border narcotics networks,” he said.
The Teknaf region, due to its proximity to the border, has long been a hotspot for drug trafficking, making operations like this crucial for both law enforcement and public safety. Authorities continue to monitor waterways and remote areas to prevent further smuggling attempts.
Summary of the Seizure:
