Ukraine has carried out a devastating drone attack on an oil refinery in Russia’s Ryazan region. According to the Ukrainian forces, the attack is part of a planned effort to reduce Moscow’s missile and bombing capabilities. In retaliation, four people were killed in Russian attacks in southern Ukraine.
With the upcoming winter approaching, Russia has intensified drone and missile attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector. In response, Kyiv reportedly targeted the oil refinery in Ryazan.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian military stated on social media that the attack aimed to limit the enemy’s missile and bombing capabilities. The attack caused a fire at the refinery. However, Ryazan local authorities claimed that 25 Ukrainian drones were shot down, and the fire was triggered by falling debris.
Meanwhile, several civilians were killed in Russian attacks in the Kherson region of Ukraine. Russian forces also launched attacks in Zaporizhzhia on the same day.
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba said that since July, Russian attacks on the country’s rail system have tripled. Sixty-three percent of the nation’s total cargo transport and a significant portion of military support are carried via rail. Kuleba claimed Russia is targeting this transport route to disrupt supply lines.
Ongoing Russian attacks have put Ukraine at risk of significant losses. In this situation, President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed to international partners to provide additional air defence systems.
Additionally, Ukraine faces a new crisis with allegations of embezzlement of ten million dollars in state-owned energy companies. Amid this, President Zelensky has accepted the resignation of two ministers.
