United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres met with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Dhaka today before departing for Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya refugee camps.
Following their meeting, Guterres and Yunus boarded a commercial Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight to Cox’s Bazar, where they will engage with Rohingya refugees who fled violence and persecution in Myanmar. They will also meet with members of the Bangladeshi host communities.
As part of their visit, the UN chief and the Chief Adviser will join Rohingya refugees for iftar in the camp.
Guterres arrived in Dhaka yesterday for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Prof. Yunus. Earlier today, he met with Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain and Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative of the Chief Adviser on Rohingya and priority issues, at Hotel InterContinental.
