Uncle Killed by Nephew over Land Dispute in Cox’s Bazar

In Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria, an 80-year-old man, Mohammad Kalu, died after being kicked by his nephew in a land-related dispute. The accused, Ali Ahmad, was apprehended by local residents and handed over to the police.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (26 November) around 10:30 am in the Kakara Phulerchara area of the upazila. The deceased Kalu was the son of the late Mokbul Ahmad from Sakher Mohammadchar Schoolpara, Ward No. 1, Kakara Union, and also served as the mutawalli of the local Jame Mosque.

Eyewitnesses and local sources reported that Kalu had been in a long-standing land dispute with his brother Surat Afzal’s son, Master Ali Ahmad. On Wednesday morning, a verbal altercation arose between them, and Ali Ahmad kicked his elderly uncle, causing Kalu to collapse and die on the spot.

Following the incident, when police tried to arrest Ali Ahmad and his wife Parveen Akhtar, their relatives attempted to intervene. However, local residents restrained them and handed them over to the police after giving them a public thrashing.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Anwar stated that upon receiving the information, the police recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Both individuals involved have been arrested, and legal action is underway.
