Unidentified Man Found in Pond Near Feni Police

A grim discovery near the heart of Feni has left local residents in shock and mourning. In the early hours of Tuesday, 9 December, the body of an unidentified man was retrieved from a pond adjacent to the Feni Sadar Model Police Station. The recovery, carried out jointly by police and the fire service, took place around midnight, ending a tense and unsettling night for those in the vicinity.

Police sources revealed that the deceased sustained severe head injuries, prompting immediate concerns about the circumstances of his death. The identity of the man remains unknown, and investigators are examining whether foul play, a tragic accident, or other factors were involved.

Eyewitnesses described the harrowing moment the body was first spotted. Mohammad Shahin, the night-time caretaker who regularly feeds the fish in the pond, came across the lifeless figure while patrolling the western bank. “I visit the pond every evening for my routine work. Last night, I saw the body floating near the bank and immediately informed the police. It was a truly frightening and disturbing sight,” Shahin recounted.

Authorities estimate the man to be approximately 42 years old. He was dressed in casual attire, including a shirt, lungi, and muffler.

Sajal Kanti Das, the investigating officer at Feni Model Police Station, commented, “Our preliminary assessment indicates the body may have been in the water for several days. The severe head trauma points to the possibility of homicide, though an accident cannot be ruled out at this stage. Establishing the victim’s identity and the precise cause of death remains our top priority.” He further confirmed that the body has been transferred to the 250-bed morgue at Feni General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigators are simultaneously seeking information from local residents and attempting to locate the man’s family.

The discovery has sparked unease among the local community, with residents expressing concern over the lack of security surrounding the pond and neighbouring areas. Many have called for a swift, thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

Authorities have assured the public that once the victim is identified, anyone connected to the case will be promptly traced and, if necessary, held accountable under the law.
