Unreleased Scott Weiland Song ‘If I Could Fly’ Shared on 10th Anniversary of His Death

A previously unheard Scott Weiland track has been released to mark the tenth anniversary of his death. The song, If I Could Fly, written in 2000 shortly after the birth of his son Noah, was first issued during Record Store Day’s Black Friday event and is now available on streaming platforms, with a vinyl version set for 19 December.

A statement on Weiland’s official Facebook page described it as ‘‘the first unheard piece from Scott’s archive since he left us—personal, raw, and full of the emotional depth that shaped his entire body of work.’’

The post highlighted Weiland’s legacy—Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, numerous awards, and over 50 million albums sold—adding that this song ‘‘connects two generations of listeners and returns a piece of Scott that has been held close for 25 years.’’

In the moving chorus, he sings to his son:
“If I could fly I would pick you up and keep you safe from the headlights…”

Weiland, who had long struggled with substance abuse, died in December 2015 aged 48 while on tour in Bloomington, Minnesota. His family and management confirmed the news at the time, requesting privacy.
