In Barguna’s Taltali Upazila, a Union Parishad (UP) member, Ali Ahmad Farazi, was brutally assaulted while returning home after casting his vote. Farazi represents Ward No. 7 of the Borbogi Union. Police have indicated that the attack was the result of a longstanding personal dispute rather than any political or electoral motivation.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 12 February, at approximately 3:00 PM. Farazi had just voted at the government-run Kajir Khal Primary School polling station, designated as polling centre No. 180. While passing through the Pazaravanga area, he was ambushed by a group of locals wielding traditional weapons.
According to local reports, Farazi sustained serious injuries in the attack before the assailants fled the scene. Bystanders promptly intervened and transported him to the Taltali Upazila Health Complex. Owing to the severity of his wounds, doctors at the health complex referred him to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment.
Taltali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Ashadur Rahman, confirmed that police had been dispatched immediately upon receiving news of the attack. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the assault stemmed from previous personal enmity between the parties involved,” he stated. “There have been prior altercations between the two sides, and legal cases are already pending against both groups. There is no indication that this attack is linked to the election or any political matter.”
