Over the past four days, the United States has conducted a major naval and aerial offensive in the Arabian Sea, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman, destroying a total of 17 Iranian warships, including a submarine, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM) officials. Admiral Brad Cooper, a senior spokesperson for CENTCOM, confirmed the operation’s results in a statement.
Posting on the social media platform X, Admiral Cooper stated, “Simply put, we have targeted and neutralised any assets capable of threatening us. Our B-1 and B-2 bombers conducted coordinated missions across the Arabian Sea, Strait of Hormuz, and Gulf of Oman, successfully eliminating a submarine along with 17 Iranian warships.”
He added, “For decades, Iran has harassed commercial vessels in these waters. Following these strikes, there are no longer Iranian ships operating in the area.”
The operation marks a significant escalation in regional tensions. On 28 February, Israel launched Operation Roaring Lion, while the United States initiated Operation Epic Fury, signalling a joint offensive against Iranian maritime and military assets. According to US defence officials, Operation Epic Fury has mobilised over 50,000 American troops and more than 200 combat aircraft.
Admiral Cooper further revealed in his X post on Tuesday that US air forces have struck over 2,000 Iranian targets during the past four days, including key military installations and naval facilities. These operations aim to dismantle Iran’s capability to threaten regional shipping lanes and counteract decades of strategic harassment in critical maritime routes.
| Operation Name | Date Launched | US Forces Deployed | Iranian Assets Destroyed | Target Areas |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epic Fury (US) | 28 Feb 2026 | 50,000+ troops, 200+ aircraft | 1 submarine, 17 warships | Arabian Sea, Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman |
| Roaring Lion (Israel) | 28 Feb 2026 | Classified | Classified | Iranian military and naval targets |
Military analysts have described these operations as some of the most concentrated US air and naval campaigns in the region in decades. The offensive underscores Washington’s commitment to safeguarding international shipping lanes while projecting military strength in the Persian Gulf region.
The strikes come amid rising geopolitical tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, raising questions about potential regional escalation and the response of international stakeholders.
