US plans to build a major military base on the Gaza border

The United States is planning to establish a large military base along the border of Palestine’s Gaza Strip. On Tuesday (November 11), Israeli investigative media “Shorim” reported that the construction of the base could cost around 500 million dollars.

According to the report, the US government intends to deploy over a thousand troops and heavy weapons at the base. Iranian media outlet Press TV, citing Shorim, reported that this decision by the US has sparked concern across the Middle East, with many viewing it as a new sign of aggression in support of Israel.

The Israeli media outlet stated that the planned base would allow Washington to operate independently without direct coordination with Israel and give it more control over shaping the situation. Last week, a US delegation discussed possible locations with the Israeli military.

Analysts noted that the plan was revealed at a time when global outrage over Israel’s ongoing genocidal war in Gaza is intensifying. They believe Israel is trying to achieve its goals through its allies to temporarily ease international pressure.

Palestinian officials have warned that such a move represents an attempt to replace one occupation with another—replacing Israeli soldiers with foreign troops.

Earlier in November, senior Hamas leader Musa Abu Marzouk told Al Jazeera, “We cannot accept any military force that would act as a substitute for the occupying army in Gaza.”

Previously, the United States had submitted a draft proposal to the UN Security Council calling for the establishment of an “International Stabilization Force (ISF).” The proposal suggested that this force, led by the United States, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, would remain stationed in Gaza for at least two years.

Critics argue that under the guise of reconstruction and security, the real goal of the plan is to disarm Gaza and dismantle the resistance movement’s structure. They also claim the move completely ignores core issues such as Israeli occupation, accountability for war crimes, and Palestinians’ rights to self-determination and compensation. The news of the new US base has further heightened concerns.
