MOSCOW, 25th March 2025 (BSS/AFP) – A Russian negotiator stated on Tuesday that Moscow considers its recent talks with the United States regarding the Ukraine conflict to have been “useful” and affirmed that discussions would continue. Grigory Karasin, who spoke to the state TASS news agency, also mentioned that efforts would be made to include the United Nations and other nations in the dialogue.
“We discussed a wide range of issues; it was an intense conversation—difficult, but very useful for both us and the Americans,” Karasin explained. He emphasised that “a lot of problems were addressed” during the talks.
However, he acknowledged that there was still a long way to go before resolving all differences, saying, “Of course, we are far from solving everything, from reaching an agreement on every issue, but it appears that this type of discussion is very timely.”
“We will continue this dialogue, broadening the involvement of the international community, particularly the United Nations and certain countries,” Karasin added.
His comments followed a 12-hour meeting between US and Russian delegations held in a luxury hotel in Saudi Arabia the previous day.
US President Donald Trump is pushing for a swift resolution to the three-year-long war, and there are hopes that the latest round of talks in Riyadh could lead to a breakthrough in the ongoing conflict.
Earlier, TASS reported that a joint statement summarising the talks would be released on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian negotiating team remained in Riyadh for additional talks with US representatives. A source in the delegation confirmed to Suspilne news that a second meeting was likely to take place, suggesting that some progress might have been made.
These discussions come at a time of increasing international efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to a conclusion, with key global players and organisations such as the United Nations playing crucial roles in the ongoing diplomatic processes.
