The United States has issued a renewed warning to Iran, signalling the possibility of severe consequences should Tehran fail to comply with American demands on nuclear enrichment, ballistic missile development, and broader regional stability. President Donald Trump indicated that the US is prepared to take “very tough measures” if no agreement is reached.
In an interview with Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 on Tuesday, Trump stated, “Either we reach a deal, or we will have to take very firm action.” Observers interpreted his comments as a veiled warning that, in the absence of compromise, the United States may adopt aggressive measures, potentially including military action.
The warning comes amid heightened diplomatic and strategic manoeuvres in the region. Last week, Iran’s security chief, Ali Larijani, met with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said to discuss the outcomes of recent talks between American and Iranian officials. The discussions reportedly focused on de-escalation and the possibility of future negotiations, although details remain closely held.
Meanwhile, US military presence in the Middle East has intensified. A significant naval task force has been deployed near Iranian waters, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. According to US media outlet Axios, the administration is considering dispatching an additional carrier strike group. The move underscores Washington’s readiness to project force in response to perceived threats from Tehran.
In a parallel measure, US authorities have instructed American-operated commercial vessels to remain clear of Iranian territorial waters, a precaution intended to reduce risk while maintaining pressure on Iran. Analysts caution that these combined military and diplomatic signals may exacerbate regional tensions, raising the risk of confrontation in an already volatile environment.
Key developments are summarised in the table below:
| Topic | Details | Date/Time |
|---|---|---|
| Presidential warning | Threat of strict measures if Iran resists | February 2026 |
| Diplomatic meeting | Ali Larijani & Sultan Haitham | February 2026 |

Regional experts warn that the heightened US pressure on Iran could destabilise the Middle East further. The combination of Trump’s stern warnings and a bolstered military posture indicates that Washington is signalling both resolve and readiness, sending a serious message to Tehran and neighbouring countries about the potential consequences of non-compliance.
