As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, the United States government has announced a special initiative to streamline visa procedures for international football fans. Those who have purchased official match tickets will be eligible for priority visa interview appointments, offering a faster route through the normally complex and time-consuming application process.
The announcement comes in response to growing interest in travelling to the US for the tournament, amid longstanding concerns about the bureaucratic hurdles involved in obtaining a visa. By providing a dedicated priority channel, authorities aim to ensure that ticket holders can secure their travel plans in time for the global sporting spectacle.
Not all visitors are automatically entitled to this benefit. Only individuals who have purchased official FIFA tickets directly from FIFA are eligible. These ticket holders must first register via the FIFA PASS system, which verifies the authenticity of their tickets. Once verified, applicants can schedule visa interviews under the priority system.
The United States Embassy in Mexico explained,
“If you have purchased tickets directly from FIFA, you can register on FIFA.com through FIFA PASS. This registration will allow you to secure priority appointments when applying for your US visa.”
The FIFA PASS system is central to the process. Once registered and verified, applicants can obtain earlier visa interview dates, significantly reducing waiting times at busy consulates. This is particularly beneficial in locations where the demand for visa appointments is high.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | Direct FIFA ticket purchasers only |
| Registration | FIFA PASS registration required |
| Purpose | Ticket verification and priority visa scheduling |
| Benefit | Reduced wait time for consulate appointments |
The US authorities have stressed that a priority interview does not guarantee visa approval. Each applicant must still undergo the standard evaluation process and meet all immigration requirements. As the embassy stated,
“All visa applications are subject to the established assessment procedures, and applicants must fulfil all necessary conditions.”
Ultimately, the decision rests with the consular officer conducting the interview.
Fans planning to travel to the US for the 2026 World Cup are advised to:
Secure official FIFA tickets.
Register promptly with FIFA PASS.
Begin the visa application process well in advance.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with organisers expecting hundreds of thousands of international visitors for one of the world’s largest sporting events.
