Venezuela will use oil revenues to buy only American products: Trump

US President Donald Trump has announced that Venezuela will purchase exclusively American-made products using the proceeds from its oil sales. He made the revelation on his social media platform, Truth Social, according to reports from TRT World.

The Washington administration stated that a recent agreement concerning Venezuela’s oil sales was finalised following efforts to remove President Nicolás Maduro from power. Under this deal, the revenue generated from Venezuelan oil exports will be used solely to acquire goods manufactured in the United States.

On Truth Social, President Trump wrote: “I have just been informed that under our new oil agreement, the money Venezuela receives will be used exclusively to purchase products made in the United States.”

He further specified that the American products to be acquired would span multiple sectors, including agricultural goods, industrial machinery, medical equipment, and energy sector apparatus.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright confirmed on Wednesday that Washington will oversee Venezuela’s oil sales “indefinitely.” He explained that under President Trump’s directive, the interim Venezuelan leadership will channel 30–50 million barrels of crude oil through US-managed marketing channels.

Secretary Wright said: “We will market Venezuelan oil—first from the reserved stock, and subsequently, on an indefinite basis, we will sell oil produced in Venezuela to the market.”

In a related development, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated on Wednesday that the blockade of Venezuelan oil imposed by Washington is enforceable “anywhere in the world.” He made this remark following US military actions seizing tankers in the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic, underscoring America’s commitment to restricting Maduro’s access to international markets.

The new arrangement marks a significant intensification of US influence over Venezuelan oil exports and highlights Washington’s strategy of leveraging energy resources to reinforce economic and geopolitical objectives. Analysts suggest that by controlling Venezuela’s oil revenues, the US can shape trade flows, restrict Maduro’s fiscal autonomy, and boost domestic demand for American goods.

Key Elements of the US–Venezuela Oil Deal:

Aspect Details
Revenue Use Only for US-made goods
Product Categories Agricultural goods, industrial machinery, medical equipment, energy sector apparatus
Oil Volume Managed by US 30–50 million barrels of crude oil
Oversight US Energy Department, indefinite duration
Enforcement US military ensures blockade globally

This strategic move has drawn international attention, with observers noting its potential impact on global oil markets and Venezuela’s economy. The deal effectively intertwines American commercial interests with energy diplomacy, consolidating Washington’s leverage over Caracas while shaping future trade and production patterns in the region.
