“Very Bad Experience with Srijit”: Badhan Speaks Out

In 2021, the film “Rabindranath Here Never Comes to Eat” was released in Kolkata under the direction of Srijit Mukherjee. For the first time, Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhan collaborated with the prominent West Bengali director.

While the series did not receive widespread acclaim among audiences, Badhan’s portrayal of Muskan Juberi left a lasting impression. However, despite the accolades and awards the project garnered, the actress reveals that her personal experience working on the film was far from enjoyable.

In a recent interview with a news outlet, Badhan stated: “My experience shooting in Kolkata with Srijit was extremely unpleasant. My interactions with the unit were very negative. The few people who did support me were the cinematographer of the series, the costume designer, and Rahul Bose. Their support meant everything to me, and I will remember it for the rest of my life, because that period will never come back.”

Badhan first drew international recognition with her performance in “Rehana Maryam Noor”, establishing her as a talent of global acclaim. Srijit, on the other hand, has long been celebrated for his sharp storytelling and distinctive character creation. Audiences had eagerly anticipated their collaboration, viewing it as a unique creative fusion. Yet, the actress’s bitter experience remained hidden until recently.

In 2023, Badhan made her Bollywood debut with “Khufiya”, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, performing alongside established actors such as Tabu and Ali Fazal, reaching new heights in her career.

Meanwhile, Srijit is preparing a new film titled “Emperor Versus Sharatchandra”. The director shared that the project commemorates the centenary of Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay’s novel “Pather Dabi”, originally published on 31 August 1926. The novel was banned by the British authorities in January 1927, provoking public outrage. The film will explore the novel’s ban, the subsequent protests, and its societal impact.
