Advocate Fazlur Rahman, a distinguished valiant freedom fighter and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nominee for the Kishoreganj-4 (Itna-Mithamain-Austagram) constituency, has been admitted to hospital following a sudden and severe deterioration in his health. The veteran politician, who is contesting the upcoming national election under the ‘Paddy Sheaf’ symbol, was rushed to medical facilities on Thursday afternoon, causing significant concern among his supporters and party colleagues.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 PM on 22 January, while Rahman was en route to Bhairab to attend a high-profile public rally featuring the BNP’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman. According to his personal assistant, Enamul Haque, the candidate began to feel profoundly unwell during the journey.
Rahman reportedly suffered from a sudden high fever and bouts of vomiting. Recognising the gravity of the situation, his aides diverted his motorcade to the Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital (ZIMCH) in Bhagalpur, Bajitpur, where he was immediately placed under clinical observation.
| Vital Metric / Observation | Status at Admission | Current Status (with Support) |

| Primary Symptoms | High fever, Vomiting, Dyspnoea | Under Intensive Monitoring |

Professor Dr Bahar Uddin Bhuiyan, the Director of Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital, provided a detailed medical briefing regarding the candidate’s condition. He confirmed that the veteran politician is currently battling a severe respiratory tract infection accompanied by acute breathing difficulties.
Upon arrival at the emergency department, Rahman’s oxygen saturation had dipped to a concerning 93%. Medical staff acted swiftly to administer supplemental oxygen, which has successfully stabilised his saturation levels between 99% and 100%. Despite this temporary stabilisation, the hospital director remained cautious. When questioned if the candidate was out of danger, Dr Bhuiyan stated that it was too early to provide a definitive assurance.
The medical team is currently conducting a comprehensive battery of tests to determine the full extent of the infection and to rule out other complications. Subsequent treatment paths will be decided once the full pathology reports are available.
Kishoreganj-4 is a strategically vital constituency, and Fazlur Rahman’s sudden absence from the campaign trail comes at a critical juncture. As a freedom fighter and a seasoned legal professional, his candidacy carries significant weight in the Itna-Mithamain-Austagram belt. Local party activists have expressed their hopes for a speedy recovery, as his physical presence is deemed essential for the final stretch of the electoral race.
