Veteran Journalist Zakaria Kajol Passes Away

Renowned journalist and member of the National Press Club, Zakaria Kajol, has passed away. He died on Friday, 6 February, at 3:30 pm while receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital. He was 67 years old. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.)

Kajol’s younger brother, Mohammad Sohel, informed the media that the funeral prayers will be held on Saturday, 7 February, after the Dhuhr prayer at the National Press Club and in front of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU). He will subsequently be laid to rest at Banani Cemetery.

The veteran journalist had been battling multiple health complications, including liver and kidney ailments, heart disease, and diabetes. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and numerous relatives and admirers.

Born on 16 December 1959 in Brahmanbaria, Zakaria Kajol had a distinguished career spanning several decades in Bangladeshi journalism. He worked with prominent publications such as Dainik Azad, Inqilab, The Observer, bdnews24.com, and most recently served as Head of News at Jamuna Television. His contributions earned him widespread respect and recognition among colleagues and the media fraternity.

The National Press Club expressed profound grief over his passing. Club President Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiya issued a joint statement mourning the loss. They prayed for the eternal peace of his soul and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
